Meeting was called to order

Pledge to the Flag was given followed  with Moment of Silence.

Roll call of OfficersAll were present.

Motion was made to set aside the regular business to give a representative from Costco the opportunity to talk. Motion passed.

Rod discussed the opportunity to join Costco for Union members for $50.00 year membership fee & some of the special deals that you would receive if you signed up.

Motion was made to return to the regular business. Motion passed.

Reading of Minutes of last month's meeting: Minutes from May's regular meeting were read.

Reading of Executive Board Minutes:  Minutes for June 14, 2008 E-Board Meeting were read.

Reading of Financial Report:  Due to audits & constraints on his time Brother Harris said he would give 2 reports at the next meeting.

Reading of the Bills: Motion made and passed not to read Bills as Bills were posted though out Hall.

Reading of Communications:

  • Letter from the Grand Lodge approving $500.00 Expenditure of funds for the Lodge 778 Guide Dogs of America ride 6/28/08

  • Letter from the Mid-America Labor/Management Conference for a Labor Management Conference 6/30/08-7/3/08 at Lodge of the Four Seasons in Osage Beach, MO

  • Letter from the Economic Policy Institute concerning the outsourcing of jobs to Airbus vs. Boeing.

  • A letter was submitted from the Lodge President, with names of withdrawals from the convention & the alternates who would be replacing them.

Directing Business Representative: BR Roepke gave Brother Capra's report as follows.  Brother Capra wanted to apologize for not attending the meeting today, but is working an organizing blitz. Brother Capra also wanted to thank all the voluntary’s that have worked the campaign. Brother Capra has negotiated or opened the contracts with the follow company’s: Yellow Freight, this agreement has been extended until July 30, 2008 and we have meeting set in St. Louis MO. on July 29th, 30th and 31st, 2008. ABF Freightways, Gram Ship by Truck, Belger Cartage Service, UPS Freight and Yulista Management Services. In the past month Brother Capra has attended Legislative Conference in Washington DC, Greater Kansas City AFL-CIO May meeting, Harley-Davidson third step grievance meeting and grievance investigation meetings, Executive Board / Regular Meeting for Local Lodge 176, UPS Mid states Grievance Meetings and 10 shop visits.

Business Representative (BR) Report:  Brother Roepke gave reports for DBR Capra and Organizer Brown. Mike reported he has open contact with the City of Lees Summit and Webb Corp. Talk and confer meetings with revenues for the city extremely flat. At Folgers Coffee we had a good contract when they there bought out by Smucker's, now we are back at the table working to get a new contract with the new owner. Brother Roepke talked about the survey results from Honeywell. Mike discussed some of what the Honeywell Negotiating Committee is working on. IBC had 1 suspended. Right Made had 1 suspended. June 28 is the Ride for Guide Dogs of America.   Assisted in organizing efforts, GDA Planning, MNPL Planning, Legislative Meetings, Disability Meetings and other activities for the good of the membership

Organizer Report:  BR Roepke gave Howard's report as he is working an organizing campaign.  Howard requested Mike ask for volunteers to help with the campaign this coming week.  This is great opportunity to see what live is like with out a union.  Contact Mike or Howard for more detail.

Legislative committee report: Brother Long talked about the AFL-CIO walk. Their will be 2 upcoming labor to labor walks north of the river. Their was a request for at least 5 members from the lodge for both walks. The Legislative committee had just returned from DC where they had spoken with all of our representatives on the building of the new Honeywell plant. They could not receive a firm commitment from any of them. Discussed the outsourcing of work to Airbus & the loss of Union jobs this would result in at Boeing.
Next month Jeff Harris who is running for Attorney General in MO and who is endorsed by the machinists will be at our regular meeting to speak. Following the meeting, the hall has been rented where Jeff Harris will speak all members are invited to attend.

Retiree's Report:  Clifford Wall thanked everyone for their help in the retiree’s party. We had a 4 piece band and everyone had a pretty good time.

For the Good of the IAM:  shed Business: Educational pamphlets that had been provided by Jay Nixon’s office and Marilyn Webb were set out for the membership at the front entrance.

New Business:  

Motion from floor: none

Recommendations of E-Board acted on:

  • Motion made and passed  to pay teller expense for a 4th teller for the Business Representative election.

    •  And amend it to increase pay to each teller.

  • Motion made and passed to set aside money for the annual picnic for the lodge

  • Motion made and passed to remit assessment per member to the MNPL, to fund MNPL Education Fund.

  • Motion made and passed to pay for a tent at the  Guide Dog Run 6/28/08.
