To all Bargaining Unit employees who work at ATK Lake City facility
Brothers and Sisters,
I'm sorry I have to be the bearer of bad news, but the Company made a BIG mistake in not deducting August's dues. What does that mean? They will have to do what is commonly known as "double dip" every ones dues in September. This will affect roughly over 260 to 270 members. For those of you that just signed an application after July 22nd, which is very few people, will not be affected.
We understand this will not be acceptable to the membership but it's something that has happened and we are very upset about it as everyone else is. Seems the Company somehow over looked the process and did not get it done. As always when they make a mistake they are very apologetic, but anyone that has worked at Lake City since ATK took over that doesn't mean a whole lot.
Remember this was a big mistake by the Company and by their own admission; we need to make that very clear when you’re talking to other members. I'm sure you’re wondering such as "why can't we make the Company pay for that month?" We just can't do it, as long as they are willing to make the deductions.
If you should have questions please feel free to either call me or send me an email. REMEMBER THIS WAS NOT THE UNIONS FAULT! We turned in all the applications to the Company in a timely manner so they could do this as smoothly as possible. They DID NOT get it done!
It is our hope that everyone will try and understand you’re Union tried to correct this as soon as we we’re made aware, but to no avail we were unsuccessful because we we’re notified to late.
We will make the commitment that we will keep an eye on this and try to our utmost ability to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
In Solidarity,
Leo Berroteran
Brothers and Sisters,
Since our last email blast we’ve had a lot going on. First off I want to make everyone aware your shop committee persons and stewards spent a week at your Union training facility known as the Winpisinger Education & Technology Center in Hollywood, MD.
Your shop committee persons and stewards received overwhelming amount of information and training within just one short week. Some of the things they learned such as in plant organizing, grievance handling, contract interpretation and much more. Please watch a short video on the training by going to YouTube and type in ATK Planning Program and hit enter.
Your shop committee persons and stewards have been posted on the Union bulletin boards. Per the collective bargaining agreement there are ten (10) bulletin boards and they are located as follows:
B1 (2) one on the front entrance and one on the back entrance)
B3 (2) one on the front entrance and one on the back entrance)
B2 (1) B8 (1)
B11 (1) B45 (1)
B35 (1) B65 (1)
The Union and Company have agreed that the shift realignment will not be effective until shut down December 2015 and then in 2016 there will be two as the collective bargaining agreement states. The reason for this is that your Union wants to make sure everything is done correctly and fairly for all bargaining unit employees. This might cause some inconvenience to some of you, but understand the Union will be in negotiation with the company on the effects of shift realignment per the collective bargaining agreement per Article XV section 16 the contract is very clear, that plant Seniority shall rule. It states: Employees shall be able to select shifts based on Plant Seniority, in a manner agreed to by the Company and the Union.
With the date being moved to December 2015 it will give both parties to do the right thing and that is following the Contract. So we ask that everyone please have patience and we will make sure the Company does it right and fairly.
