After failing to garner the two-thirds majority votes needed to initiate a strike, IAM Local 778 members employed by the Greater Kansas City Auto Dealers have entered into a new three-year agreement with the dealership association, effective Thursday, February 1, 2018.
Although the results aren’t ideal and hard decisions had to be made, the IAM membership has spoken. Thank you to all those who came out and let your voice be heard.
The three-year agreement includes a pay increase of over 5 percent the first year and more guaranteed hours. The agreement reclaims pay for any lube work that technicians complete. It includes an increase in the employer contribution to members’ health savings accounts, plus an employer-provided payment for anyone who opts out of the health insurance plan.
While the main sticking point was the IAM Pension Plan, which prompted the assistance of a federal mediator during negotiations, due to the results of last night’s vote, the pension plan will now be replaced with an employer-based 401(k) plan. The 401(k) plan includes an employer contribution of $1.45 per hour, up to 40 hours, plus an employer match. Contributions made into the IAM Pension Plan, to date, will remain in place until you retire.
Members of Teamsters Local 41 approved a strike, however, the Union Executive Board has agreed to return to the bargaining table Wednesday, February 7, 2018.
